Teams of experienced Engineers and Technicians provide engineered concepts for even the most difficult sealing applications industries encounter. Experience, computer modeling, including non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and access to a wide range of materials and manufacturing techniques gives Utex an advantage. Utex has an ever-expanding portfolio of testing and research support to assist in product development. On site test centers are available for pressure testing including environmental chambers. Design Research & Development Testing


Utex engineers work closely with our customers to understand their problems and bring years of experience to the table when designing a solution. We work with many of the industry’s leading innovators and are able to shed light on different scenarios in order to help your application. FEA analysis and flow analysis are among some of the applications we use to help determine our designs. In order to help with a customer design, the main parameters for our engineers to know are: pressures, temperatures, environment / sealing media, chemical exposure, duration of use, testing requirements and goal of the application. If a seal is needed, there are typically more questions based on grooves, static or dynamic movement, reciprocation or rotating, gland dimensions, energization methods, and surface finish.   • FEA TECHNOLOGY: Using computerized performance predictive software, we can determine the best materials and design features to optimize the performance of our custom-engineered solutions. As a Utex customer, you can rest assured that our solution will yield the highest performance over the longest product life.
  • FLOW ANALYSIS: Engineer works to gather information using certain value points on a design concept to help prove the design validity. This process helps engineering review and tweak possible outcomes for the finished product.

Research & Development

Utex employs a dedicated R & D manufacturing group to expedite design development and rapid prototypes for testing. Stocked shapes are available in many Utex compounds and can be machined into product form, eliminating the lead-time required to build molds. The Utex Engineering group works with our customers to find the best solution for them.

  • Rapid Prototyping For more than 80 years, Utex has worked with our clients to identify unmet needs and innovate products to fill those market gaps. Many of the hundreds of products we have developed over the years have made their way to the market through our custom engineering and prototyping clients.
  • Engineering Expertise Our engineers have the expertise that comes with years spent working in or with nearly every applicable industry. From developing custom fabric-wrapped seals for hydraulic fracturing applications to vibration-reducing parts for the mining industry, our engineers work side-by-side to develop the solution that works for you.

R&D Support


Utex manufacturing locations have testing capabilities, the equipment and processes vary depending on the overall product produced at each plant. The Utex Engineering group works with the various sites to facilitate the different tests that are requested or required by our customers. Qualification in accordance with API S64 can be conducted in house, depending on seal/system size. We also have relationships with labs and facilities to complete tests outside our current offerings.
